True Riches

I believe that every detail of your life matters and that you are called to be more than just a mere analytic or statistic.  You are important.  Your life is valuable.  The devil is NOT in the details, but just the shear opposite, God is in the details of your story.

In 2016 in an airport in Las Vegas I was eating at a restaurant on a layover.  I saw 2 pennies on the floor.  I felt prompted by the Lord to pick them up but was distracted by trying to order, getting seated and watching a football game on the television (it was playoff season!).  I felt prompted to pick them up again, to which I silently thought “…I will, just a second…let me get situated and order some food.”  In other words, let me get myself all taken care of and then I will tend to that prompting I was feeling from the Lord.  I would flat out tell my girls who are 8 and 10 that this was just plain disobedience.

Just then I saw the bus boy come by and sweep the pennies into the trash.  I knew immediately I had not done what I had been told.

The airport lobby was bustling with WAY MORE than 2 pennies being thrown away.  The slot machines were cranking and thousands of pennies per second were being given into the machines.  Thrown away so to speak.

I heard the still small voice in my heart whisper,  “2 pennies in the hands of a good steward are worth more than thousands of pennies in the hands of those who will just throw them away.”  It was clear to me that I needed to be keenly aware of every penny that passed through my hands.  And it was not just the pennies that mattered. But the fact that anything given to me to steward was of great significance to God.  And If I, who considered myself to be a Christian was not willing to do what God asked even with 2 pennies and multiple promptings then how could I be trusted with more?

Luke 16: 10-12 says “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.  If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?  And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?”

I realized then that the Lord really was talking about people.  How precious people are to Him.  That we are the “true riches”.  And our story matters.  The life we live and the places we do business matter.

I know that the Lord has called me to help transition people into the next best season of their lives.  And that means the neighborhoods we live in, and the business we conduct, and the friends in the community we are a part of are all a big deal.  I do not take it lightly that when I am helping someone find land, find a home, lease a space for their business or anything of the sort that it is indeed a very weighty matter.  I know that every story is valuable.  I am hopeful in this season and Lord willing for years to come to see the goodness of God prevail in the stories of the lives entrusted to my care be it for an hour or longer.

Each story matters and your story is not just a story amongst thousands of others, it holds eternal value.

Today if you find yourself wondering what transition you are to take and you need help, please know I am here to pray with you and for you.
